What's new in 1.1.12.
Doza Assist 1.1.12 has one job: Doza Assist now refuses to run itself out of memory or disk. It comes from an editor's report. A 32 GB Mac froze hard when the app loaded a large AI model in the middle of a transcription, on a disk that was almost full, and after each restart the app loaded the same model again. 1.1.12 closes every link in that chain: a model that does not fit the Mac is never offered, saved or loaded; nothing loads a model beside a transcription; start-up checks memory and disk before it warms a model; and a 20 GB free-disk floor stops heavy work with a sentence that says what to free up. There is a Delete button for models you no longer want. Around that: two Final Cut Pro import fixes, seven more languages in the picker, and a handful of smaller fixes. Every edition is the same app, and Studio adds Share.
How to get it. Direct download: choose Check for Updates… in the app menu, or download it. FxFactory edition: update through the FxFactory app once FxFactory posts 1.1.12. Studio: version 1.1.12-studio.29 carries everything below and has already updated itself.

1Memory and models
A model that does not fit this Mac is never offered, saved or loaded. Doza Assist now measures how much memory this Mac can give a model and compares it with what each model needs. In the AI setup window, a model that does not fit shows Too large for this Mac with the figure: the 26B model needs about 36 GB of memory, the 31B model about 48 GB. The default model for your Mac always fits.
- If a model you picked earlier does not fit, the app moves your pick to the default model for your Mac, once, and says so in the log. The app never falls back to a model that does not fit, and start-up never downloads one.
- Choosing or downloading a model that does not fit is refused, and the window says why.
No model load during a transcription. On every Mac, the app no longer warms the chat model while a transcription is running or another heavy stage is under way. Before, on 32 GB and larger Macs, opening a project in the middle of a transcription could load the model at that moment.
Start-up checks first. On larger Macs, the warm-load at start-up now runs only when memory pressure is normal, there is enough free memory for the model, the disk is above the 20 GB floor, the model fits, and Final Cut Pro, Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve are not open. Otherwise it is skipped, with one line in the log that says why, and the model loads the first time you use it.
A big Mac under memory pressure runs by the careful rules. When macOS reports memory pressure, a 32 GB or larger Mac follows the rules written for smaller Macs until pressure returns to normal: one heavy stage at a time, and models are released after use.
2The free-disk floor
Doza Assist keeps 20 GB free on the startup disk, and on the disks that hold its models and your projects. macOS needs that room when memory runs short; a full disk is what turned a slow Mac into a frozen one.
What stops below the floor: transcription and Transcribe again, AI Analysis and moment labelling, Story Builder builds, speaker detection, batch imports, My Style imports, collection builds and collection stories. A model download needs the download's size on top of the floor.
The message. Each refusal names the job, the free space and the amount to free up, on the card or button you clicked. For example: “Your Mac's startup disk has 12.3 GB free. Doza Assist needs at least 20 GB free before it transcribes — macOS needs the room when memory runs short. Free up 7.7 GB and try again.” The transcribe card offers Retry afterwards.
First run. Before the first-run downloads, the app checks for the floor plus the downloads. If the disk is short, the splash says so, with a notice that stays up long enough to read and a figure that counts both downloads when both are short. The app still opens; the downloads run at a later start, once there is room.
3Delete a model
Every downloaded model in the AI setup window has a Delete button. It asks first: “Delete the <model> model? This removes the model's files from this Mac (about N GB). Any other app that uses this model may be disrupted until it is downloaded again. Doza Assist will download it again if you choose it later.” Cancel or Delete.
- Delete is refused while a job is running or the model is still answering.
- The last downloaded model, and the last model that fits this Mac, cannot be deleted. There is always a model that works.
- If you delete the model in use, your pick moves to the default model for your Mac when it is downloaded, otherwise to the largest remaining model that fits. The deleted model is never reloaded.
- A finished download now sweeps leftover files from an earlier one, and the model server's own error lines show in the window.
4Import from Final Cut Pro
iPhone Cinematic-mode clips in a multicam angle import. An editor's two-camera interview, an iPhone in Cinematic mode beside a second camera, was refused with “angle has no asset-clip”. Final Cut Pro writes Cinematic-mode clips differently inside an angle. The import reads them now, with the right audio and the camera picture.
A compound clip no longer breaks Export to Final Cut. When an imported timeline held a compound clip, Final Cut refused the exported selects or markers with “projectRef references unknown ID”. Both exports are fixed.
5Languages
Bulgarian, Croatian, Estonian, Latvian, Lithuanian, Maltese and Slovenian can be picked as a project language. Parakeet v3 already transcribed them; the language list did not offer them. All 25 Parakeet v3 languages are now in the list and take the fast engine; the list holds 37 languages in all.
6Fixes
- The speaker-detection buttons and the model picker's Download button show the sentence a refusal carries, not “HTTP 409”.
- The transcribe card offers Retry after a refused or failed transcription.
- Transcribe again checks the disk before it clears anything. Before, on a Mac under the floor, it could clear the transcript, speaker names and selects and then be refused, with no way back.
- A refused transcription no longer leaves a stray Transcribe-again backup behind.
- The model picker shows the model server's own error text when a download fails, instead of a generic failure.
- The app's bundle manifest records the right commit for every edition, so support can tell exactly what a build contains.
7For the curious
- About 300 new tests cover the memory rules, the disk floor, model deletion, the Cinematic-mode angle and the languages, on every edition.
- Support switches make the app behave as if the Mac had less memory, less free disk or memory pressure, so a report can be reproduced on any Mac.
- The app measures the memory a model can use from the graphics engine's own working-set limit rather than a fixed share of RAM.
8How to get it
