02Where MacWhisper stops and Doza Assist starts
MacWhisper's output is a transcript: subtitles, a Word or PDF document, a summary, an answer to a prompt. For meetings, lectures, dictation and caption files, that is the whole job, and it does it well on the Mac without uploading anything.
Interview editing has a second half. Someone has to read the forty hours, decide which lines carry the story, label who said them, pull the selects, and get them into the timeline at the right frames. That is the part I built Doza Assist for. It transcribes with the same class of models (Parakeet TDT through MLX, WhisperX for multilingual work and speaker diarization), then runs a local Gemma model sized to your memory to rank soundbites, write a Story Brief and draft a Story Builder cut where every line points at a real transcript span. When you approve, the selects go back into your Final Cut Pro project by FCPXML with multicam and sync clips intact, or out as a Premiere or Resolve sequence.
03Using both
Keep MacWhisper for everything that is not an edit: meeting notes, system audio, quick captions, a research interview you only need as text. Use Doza Assist when the footage is going into a cut. Both keep the audio on your Mac, and both let you bring your own cloud model key only if you choose to.

06Why not just use the transcription built into your editor?
Final Cut Pro, Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve can all turn audio into text now, and for captions that is often enough. Doza Assist is for the step after the transcript, and it adds six things the built-in tools do not:

Not for meeting notes, dictation or caption files. Doza Assist is built for interview footage that is headed for an edit. If you own MacWhisper and like it, keep it. The two do different jobs on the same Mac.
Do both really run on device?
Yes. MacWhisper's privacy policy states that no audio or text leaves your device when you use its local models, with cloud providers as an option you turn on. Doza Assist runs transcription, speaker labels and the Gemma language model locally, and its optional Claude or OpenAI key is off by default.
Can MacWhisper export to Final Cut Pro or Premiere Pro?
